Disabled Veteran Homestead Tax Valuation Exclusion
Minnesota disabled veterans owning their own homes may qualify for a substantial property tax exemption on their annual homestead property taxes. In this day and age when every dollar is stretched so thin, here’s a way disabled veterans can save BIG each year. Time is of the essence. You must contact your county tax assessor’s office and submit your application by July 1st. Example: If your homestead property taxes come due twice a year, May and October, and you file before July 1st, you won’t see your first tax relief until your October property tax statement and then on your May statement. This benefit to disabled veterans with a disability rating of 70% or higher is not openly publicized so if you qualify, don’t waste any time getting this paperwork completed and on file. Here is a full state by state list of property tax exemptions for disabled veterans.
