ReelAbilities Film Festival Inaugural Event Nov 1-5, 2013
PetsLoyal2Vets had the honor of being invited to attend the inaugural ReelAbilities film festival on November 3, 2013 presented by Partnership Resources, Inc. at St. Anthony Main Theatre and hosted by The Film Society of Minneapolis-St. Paul. This five-day event is packed with guest speakers, actors and veteran groups from all over the Twin Cities.
If you haven’t had the opportunity to view the 80 minute documentary called Warrior Champions, I suggest watching the trailer 5 min 22 sec trailer link here. This documentary by Craig and Brent Renaud tells the story of three Iraq War veterans who received significant injuries while serving their country but did not give up when training for the 2008 Para Olympics in Beijing, China.
Those veterans who have experienced significant injuries while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan and are seeking help for PTSD, know the stigma that comes from having invisible wounds others cannot see. Often called the “silent killer” PTSD can be more deadly and lead to more suicides than actual lives lost during combat.
ReelAbilities film festival illustrates the challenges these wounded warriors and many others go through in overcoming their fears, hurdles and how their communities came together to support their efforts in reaching for the top. Give this trailer a look and then watch the entire documentary. It will touch you and leave you with a lasting impression that anything can be achieved, all you need to do is try.
