Feb 8th Fundraiser was a huge success
PetsLoyal2Vets would like to thank all the volunteers who gave up their time to support our mid-winter fundraising event at the American Legion post 435. It truly goes without saying that the success of this fundraiser would not have been possible without them. The Legion auditorium was a packed house with an estimated 200 in attendance.
Guest speakers Kathleen Vitalis President and CEO of MAC-V and Jimmy Collier spoke about services available to homeless vets through the MAC-V. Sergeant Major Brett Beaudette spoke about PTSD and his experiences in the Army and how families are affected by deployment. Lt. Joe Buhain US Navy gave a presentation on the importance of giving and Beyond the Yellow Ribbon South of the River team. To Marty LaBelle from the Edina Lions who spoke about the importance of the Lions Club in the community. One cannot forget the importance of music provided by WASTEBAND. They played very good tunes and received many complements.
Patricia Boyd Peerson displayed and spoke about the Minnesota Fallen Heroes Remembered calendars with stories of some of Minnesota’s soldiers who gave their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan. Karl Gahlin spoke from the Marine Corp League and Rita Marques gave a great presentation on the many services available to veterans through the Veteran Service Centers in Minnesota. Maynard Kaderlik also gave a great presentation on Agent Orange and how significantly it has impacted Vietnam Veterans.
A special thanks goes out to our 48 corporate sponsors who provided 137 different gifts of merchandise, foods and services that made this event a success. Their donations and support was incredible and greatly appreciated.
We’d also like to thank the management and employees of American Legion post #435 who supported us in every way. Their facility was a perfect venue for this event and they were great people to work with. A very grateful thanks to Bill Freid of the Riverview Lions and Vern Teichroew of the Hiawatha Lions who worked on the planning and implementation of this event. And to Carl Peters, Director of Fundraising for Pets Loyal 2 Vets who spent months criss-crossing the Twin Cities connecting with sponsors, picking up donations and connecting with veterans. Hundreds of miles were laid down in snowy conditions yet Carl worked tirelessly making sure we had the support of many great sponsors. We can’t forget our friends King and Ann Cole, Bryant and Andrea Waller, Shannon Cruse and Brian Russo, Tracy Beuttner, Ryan and Danielle McNamara who all helped on this event.
To Mary LeBaron who worked endlessly on paperwork, calling sponsors and securing donations. When you consider all the hours she put in while working 5 days a week, it was amazing. We all had a great time meeting people and making sure everyone had enough to eat. Just take a look at the sponsors logos on this page and you will see, a lot of effort went into making this a successful night. We are one step closer thanks to everyone involved.
