From time to time, Pets Loyal 2 Vets will have dogs available to adopt to Minnesota Veterans we call “Battle Buddies”. A “Battle Buddy” is a dog that is adoptable to a Veteran as a family or personal pet. If you are a veteran who does not require a trained dog to help with symptoms related to PTSD, but just need a dog that you can take on walks, goes fishing with you or is a just a playful companion, then a “Battle Buddy” may be just what you need. If you live anywhere in Minnesota and seek a Battle Buddy companion, and are unable to pay the adoption fee, let us know.
Sometimes, these “Battle Buddy” partners are dogs we have trained but are not quite suitable to become a service dog so we make them available to Minnesota Veterans free of charge. If you are interested in such a dog and want to be on our call list, you will need to first fill out the Veterans Initial Application form found at http://petsloyal2vets.org/companions/veterans-initial-application/ to be considered.
|Kola was born January 23, 2016. He is a Shepherd/Husky/Lab mix, and weighs about 75 lbs. He has been obedience trained for 1 year at Pets Loyal 2 Vets. He has been trained to 24 different commands and is available for adoption as a “Battle Buddy” companion to a Minnesota veteran. All expenses are paid so there is no charge for Kola.
Kola is a high energy dog who enjoys an active lifestyle and a little to much energy for our programs. He will do well with a jogger, hiker, active outdoors type person. He self entertains with a squeaky tennis ball and loves retrieving it and other activity games where he is moving around. He would do best in a home with teen age kids or no kids at all. He has been socialized to many people, places and things since 8 weeks of age. Kola will need someone who is a strong active leader, who has previous experience with dogs and does not neglect him.
There is no separation anxiety, he is micro chipped, up to date on his shots and walks on a leash and is crate trained. He doesn’t like having his toys taken from him but will retrieve and drop it if you provide him a treat. If you are a Minnesota Veteran, and are interested in adopting Kola, please contact Jeff at 612-396-3369.
